June 29th and 30th, 2024, Las Cruces – Announcing our own Naomi Morningstar Cruz representing Truth or Consequences has placed 5th Runner Up in the Miss New Mexico/Teen New Mexico USA Pageant on June 30th at the New Mexico State University Center for the Arts. Out of 37 outstanding women competing for Miss New Mexico, 18 proceeded to the semi-finals, then 6 to the finals with Naomi Cruz among them. Mackenzie Sydow was crowned Miss New Mexico USA 2024 and crowned Miss New Mexico Teen USA was Fernanda Gonzalez.
Miss Naomi’s platform is Animal Advocacy and Wellness. Over 60% of households in New Mexico have pets and out of 33 counties, 6 have no-kill shelters, with Truth or Consequences being close to no-kill at an 85% save rate. Miss Naomi’s work includes volunteering at multiple shelters, animal foster care, and currently working at an animal hospital.
According to Miss Naomi, she entered this, her first pageant, to further the message; “Animals offer much comfort and services to those with disabilities, our veterans, and elderly, and I seek bringing additional veterinary and grooming services to more rural areas of New Mexico where it is often more difficult to access these resources. Animals also provide much of our food and with so much of New Mexico being agricultural, the healthier our livestock are, the healthier we are. I’m grateful to Truth or Consequences and surrounding areas for their support of this work.”
Naomi Morningstar Cruz is of Chiricahua Apache descent, having resided with family in Monticello. She shares from their Creation Story that the animals taught us to live in balance, which Naomi strives to do through a healthy lifestyle and being of service with her people and in greater New Mexico. Her hobbies include Society for Creative Anachronisms participation, archery, broad sword, fencing, armor making, painting, and reading.
