Away from Home: American Indian Boarding School Stories

The El Paso Museum of History included a Chiricahua Apache Nation display which contained artifacts on loan from the Geronimo Museum through Elder Harold Dick. Chiricahua Apache Nation was acknowledged for loaning several unique items. Away from Home explores off-reservation boarding schools in a kaleidoscope of voices that now includes the Chiricahua Apache.

Upon invitation, Chiricahua Apache Nation Ceremonial Elder Bobby Cruz lead the exhibit opening invocation, and Dr. Christina Cruz closed with discussion on intergenerational survivance and some possible next steps for reconciliation.

“Away from Home: American Indian Boarding School Stories” is an exhibit in El Paso, TX about resilience and revitalization as truthfully told through the lives of Native peoples. CANOMA was requested to present a display for the exhibition, that is open through February 2023.
